The Blogging Besties got scammed and it was as easy as taking candy from a baby, imagine that! Sit back, relax, and let me sprinkle some razzle-dazzle in that imagination so you can understand just how that happened. We spent the night beforehand going over the itinerary that we spent weeks tailoring to perfection. We confirmed with one another the places that we wanted to visit the next day including the Grand Palace and also it’s business hours (Keep this in mind)… Now how the hell we still get scammed out of going?!
So, fast-forward to the next morning where we stopped for an amazing breakfast then took off to explore. We first visited Wat Pho and then on to Wat Arun which were both BEAUTIFUL temples. Afterwards, we started making our way to The Grand Palace, Bangkok’s most famous palace. We were literally around the corner from The Grand Palace when we were stopped by a local man asking us if we had been to Big Buddha yet, we told him no and that we weren’t interested in going because we were headed to The Grand Palace. He informed us that The Grand Palace was closed as it was a special praying day and it would only be opened to monks; Of course we believed him because he’s a local, right?! We were salty but chalked it up as a loss and made plans to just go the following day. The man then continued to persuade us to visit Big Buddha, we declined and decided to go somewhere else to continue out our day.
So the following day, we set out again to conquer the day; We caught a Grab Taxi to the palaces and exited over the bridge. As soon as we got out of the car, a local lady conveniently walked past us and complimented us on how cute we look, yeah, she charmed her way into scheming us. She said “Where you ladies going?” We happily replied “We’re going to The Grand Palace.” She told us that The Grand Palace was closing in 15 minutes and obviously, we wouldn't make it on time. At that point, we were hurt because that was our last day in Bangkok and were weren’t going to be able to go- like who comes to Bangkok and not see The Grand Palace!!! It seemed as if that lady must have saw the disappointment on our faces because she suggested we take a boat ride on the Chao Phraya River. We didn’t even pay much attention to how quickly she flagged down a Tuk-Tuk that happened to be driving by (major red flag). Then here we go, getting in, smh! For the boat ride, we were able to finagle the cost for four people down to about 300baht EVEN THOUGH our itinerary said that a boat ride on the Chao Phraya River should cost only 50baht per person (inserts sarcastic smile). Without ever making it to The Grand Palace and enjoying the boat ride nonetheless, we completed our Bangkok trip and headed to Seoul, S. Korea.
Fast forward a day or two later, still salty that we missed The Grand Palace, we were discussing the shady events of how The Grand Palace was magically not available to us either day. Something must of clicked because we decided to google Bangkok scams… and voila, guess what the number one scam was… “THE GRAND PALACE IS CLOSED.” WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW, we got played... TWICE! According to countless horror stories that we read, It’s a scam that the schemers tell tourists to get them to change their plans and visit the schemer's own business instead. So long-story short, we got played and to add fuel to the fire, if we would have referred back to the itinerary that we made, for a reason, we would have made it to The Grand Palace.
Y’all know what that means- Another trip to Bangkok!!!
Noooooo!!!! That sucks! I am imagining you walking right by the scammers next time.
